Big Island of Hawaii with Kids: Historic Stops, Scenic Views, and Family Favorites
The Big Island of Hawaii is one of the most unique places we have visited as a family. It has a little bit of everything—history, beauty, raw coastline, waterfalls, volcanic landscapes, and a strong sense that this place has stories much deeper than what you can see from the road.
What stood out to me most is how varied it is. In one trip, you can visit sacred Hawaiian sites tied to kings and refuge, walk along a black sand beach with sea turtles nearby, stop at a waterfall that feels like something out of a movie, and finish the day with hot malasadas from a roadside drive-in. It is adventurous without needing to be overly complicated.
For Great American Frontier, this kind of destination fits exactly what we love—places that are beautiful, meaningful, and memorable for families. Some spots are worth an all-day adventure. Others are short stops that are still absolutely worth pulling over for.
