Punaluʻu Bake Shop: Sweet Bread, a Worthwhile Stop, and a Good Add-On to the Route

Punalu'u Bake Shop

Punaluʻu Bake Shop was a nice stop and one that made sense as part of the route. It is tucked back a bit from the road, and it feels like the kind of place people recommend because it is reliable, local-feeling, and easy to enjoy.

We picked up the sweet bread and some raisin bread, both of which were solid. We also tried the Hawaiian donuts, but for us they did not quite measure up to the malasadas we had the day before at Tex Drive In.

Even so, this was still a worthwhile stop. Sometimes the value of a place is not that it is the best thing you eat on a trip. Sometimes it is simply that it is a good stop at the right time, in the right place, and adds something enjoyable to the day.

Final Take

If you are already traveling that direction, this is an easy add-on and a nice excuse to bring some sweet bread back in the car.

Pair this with Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach and Tex Drive In. For the full route, visit our Big Island guide.
