Rainbow Falls: A Quick Stop Near Hilo That’s Actually Worth It

April 11, 20261 min read

Rainbow Falls - Hawaii

Rainbow Falls is one of those stops that is easy to fit into your day and still feels worth it. If you are near Hilo, this is a simple stop with a big visual payoff.

The waterfall is beautiful, the area is easy to access, and it does not require a major time commitment. That alone makes it a good family stop.

We ended up staying closer to 30 minutes because the huge trees nearby were fun for the kids to climb and explore. That made it feel like more than just a “hop out, take a photo, and leave” stop.

What I like about Rainbow Falls is that it works whether you are moving fast or moving slowly. If your itinerary is packed, it still fits. If you have more time, the surrounding area gives you a little extra room to enjoy it.

Final Take

Easy stop. Beautiful payoff. Worth it.

Pair this with ʻAkaka Falls State Park and Laupāhoehoe Point. For the larger island trip, visit our Big Island guide.
