Sunset Beach Park: Big Waves and a Classic North Shore Stop
Sunset Beach Park: Big Waves and a Classic North Shore Stop
Best for: Surf watching + quick stop
Time needed: 30–60 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Worth it? Yes
Sunset Beach Park feels like what you picture when you think of the North Shore.
It’s open, a little rugged, and centered around the waves.
What It’s Like
Right off the road, you’ll see:
surfers sitting far out waiting for sets
larger waves breaking offshore
wide stretches of thick sand
The sand here is noticeably heavier, which makes walking a little more work than other beaches.
The Surf
This isn’t always a casual swim beach.
You can visibly see the rip currents and wave patterns, especially on bigger days.
It’s a great place to watch—not always the place to jump in.
The Vibe
The parking area had:
surfer vans
wild chickens and roosters
a laid-back, local feel
There’s also a bike path nearby that runs along the coastline, connecting multiple beaches.
Final Take
This is a classic North Shore stop.
It’s not about amenities—it’s about the ocean.
