Makapuʻu Lookout: One of Oahu’s Best Quick Scenic Stops

Best for: Scenic overlook + quick stop
Time needed: 10–20 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Worth it? Yes

Makapuʻu Lookout is one of those stops that doesn’t take much time—but delivers a lot for how easy it is.

If you’re already driving along the southeastern coast of Oahu, it’s a no-brainer to pull over here.

Getting There

It’s just a short drive past:

Halona Blowhole

So it fits naturally into that same stretch of coastline.

Parking is limited, but turnover is quick since most people don’t stay long.

The View

Once you step out, everything opens up.

  • rocky coastline dropping into the ocean

  • deep blue water stretching out

  • offshore islands visible in the distance

  • multiple beaches tucked along the shoreline

It’s one of those viewpoints where you don’t need to hike or work for it—the view is right there.

What Makes It Worth It

This isn’t a destination on its own.

It’s a quick pause that gives you a better perspective of the island.

And when you stack it with a few nearby stops, it helps turn the drive into something more memorable.

Final Take

If you’re already heading toward:

Hanauma Bay

…this is an easy addition that’s worth the few extra minutes.

Quick stop. Big view. Keep moving.
