Halona Blowhole: Quick Stop with Big Views (Know What to Expect)

Best for: Scenic stop + ocean views
Time needed: 15–30 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Worth it? Yes—if you’re already nearby

Halona Blowhole is one of those stops that’s easy to add into your day—but it helps to go in with the right expectations.

It’s more about the setting than the blowhole itself.

Parking + First Impressions

When we pulled in, there was a decent amount of parking—but it still took a few laps before a spot opened up.

That’s pretty typical here. People are coming and going constantly.

Once you get out, the views hit right away.

The Views

This is really what makes the stop worth it.

  • wide-open cliffside views

  • deep blue water stretching out

  • a great overlook of the cove just to the right

That cove is actually just as interesting as the blowhole itself.

We saw people jumping off the small cliffs and swimming below—which immediately caught our kids’ attention.

They were all in.

From where we stood, though, it looked a little more dangerous than it first appears.

The Blowhole Itself

We did see it go off—but only briefly.

Most of the time:

  • it was small

  • or not active at all

That likely depends on the time of day and the wave conditions.

So if you show up expecting constant eruptions, you might be underwhelmed.

What This Stop Really Is

This isn’t a place you build your day around.

It’s a quick stop that adds something to the drive.

And in that context—it works really well.

Final Take

If you’re already heading out toward Hanauma Bay or along the southeastern coast, this is an easy stop to add in.

Just don’t overhype the blowhole itself.

The views are the real win here.
