Kualoa Ranch: Jurassic Park Views and One of Oahu’s Most Epic Landscapes

Best for: Scenic views + tours + iconic landscapes
Time needed: 1–3 hours (longer if doing a tour)
Difficulty: Easy
Worth it? Absolutely

Kualoa Ranch is one of those places that doesn’t feel real until you’re standing in it.

It’s massive, open, and backed by some of the most dramatic mountains on Oahu.

And once you see it, you understand why it’s been used in so many films.

Driving Into the Area

As you round the coastline along Kamehameha Highway, the scenery shifts.

What had been mostly ocean views suddenly turns into towering green mountains rising straight up from the land.

This is where:

  • Jurassic Park was filmed

  • multiple other movies and shows were shot

We actually played the Jurassic Park theme song as we drove through.

It fit perfectly.

What Kualoa Ranch Is

Kualoa Ranch is a large private nature reserve that offers a variety of tours:

  • movie site tours

  • UTV/ATV tours

  • horseback riding

You can explore it on your own visually—but to actually get into the valley and deeper areas, you’ll need to book a tour.

The Scale of It

What stood out most was the scale.

The mountains feel oversized in person.

They’re steep, lush, and almost look like they’ve been carved straight up out of the ground.

It gives the whole area a cinematic feel—even if you’ve never seen the movies filmed here.

What We Did

We didn’t do a full tour this time—we experienced it from the road and surrounding areas.

And even from that vantage point, it was worth the stop.

If we came back, a tour would be high on the list.

Final Take

This is one of the most visually impressive areas on Oahu.

Even if you’re just driving through, it’s worth slowing down and taking it in.

If you have the time, booking a tour would take it to another level.
