Hookipa Beach Park: Surf, Sea Turtles, and a Must-Stop Viewpoint

April 10, 20261 min read

Best for: Quick scenic stop
Time needed: 20–45 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Worth it? Absolutely

Hookipa Beach Park wasn’t even on our plan.

We saw it from the road… and had to pull over.

That alone tells you something.

What You’ll See

From the overlook, the whole scene opens up.

  • surfers way out catching bigger waves

  • snorkelers closer in near the reef

  • water shifting from deep blue to bright aqua depending on the light

It’s one of those views that’s hard to fully capture in a picture—it just hits differently in person.

Sea Turtles

One of the best parts is how easy it is to see sea turtles here.

You don’t have to go into the water—you can spot them directly from the overlook.

At one point, we heard a lifeguard on a megaphone telling people to back away from a turtle, mentioning fines in the $20K–$30K range.

They take that seriously.

What Stood Out

There was a lot happening all at once, which made it fun to just stand there and take it in.

  • around 15 surfers out at once

  • kite surfers coming through later

  • constant movement in the water

  • a strong sense of ocean energy

It’s not a quiet beach—it’s active and alive.

One Caution

If you decide to climb down onto the rocks, just be aware of your footing.

  • watch for broken glass

  • some areas are slippery

  • there’s marine life around

We even spotted a small eel while exploring.

If you’re doing the:

…this is an easy stop that’s 100% worth it.

It doesn’t take much time, but it adds a lot to the day.
